The Invisible Friend - Louise Arnold
Room Two's class book this term has been The Invisible Friend by Louise Arnold.
Grey Arthur is a ghost who hasn't found his place in the world. Tom Golden is a boy who doesn't fit in at school. When Tom and Grey Arthur mutter the same three words, "Life isn't fair," at exactly the same moment, a connection is made between them. Suddenly Grey Arthur knows what he must do: He must become Tom's Invisible Friend.
It seems like such a brilliant idea! Grey Arthur can take teasing signs off Tom's back, make sure he has a pen in class, keep the bullies at bay, and generally take care of everything a best friend would do. He feels a great satisfaction in helping his new friend (despite the fact that Tom doesn't even know he exists), but then everything changes when an accident gives Tom the ability to see Grey Arthur and the rest of the ghost world. Now everyone wants a piece of Tom! Poltergeists, Faintly Reals, Sadness Summoners, Snorgles, Chain Rattlers...they're all lined up for their moment with the famous Tom Golden. Add two confused parents, a kidnapping, and a few embarrassing moments at school, and soon Tom and Grey Arthur are pushed to their limit, leading them to discover what true friendship is all about.
Louise Arnold's fantastic, funny, heartwarming debut novel will have readers laughing out loud and cheering as Grey Arthur and Tom, outcasts in their separate worlds, join forces to turn their luck around.

Some of the children sharing their treasure
Nana who lived in Te Puke. She used to wear the hat when she played lawn bowls . It is special to my family because my Nana died and now my Grandma looks after it. The badges around the hat are from the different competitions that she played in.
Thanks Ben. What famous ancestors.
Here is some sheet music that Ben's Great, Great Grand Mother used when she played in The Royal Albert Hall in the mid 1930's. She was only 16 years old. Fantastic.

Family Treasures
As part of our Inquiry children have been sharing something that they or their families treasure. I have been really amazed as to what people are willing to share. We’ve had a great, great grandfathers bayonet from WW1. A great, great grand mothers brooch worn on family wedding days and a very old Edmond’s Cookbook with hand written recipes written by a great grand mother.
Celebrating Children's Day
Last Friday the whole school celebrated children’s day at school in a number of ways. Room two had to complete a challenge with their buddy class. Each group had to get a toy bus over a one meter gap by building a bridge out of newspaper, string, tape and a short cane. The class did really well working as a group however only one group managed to meet the challenge.
EOTC
Last week we had an Absolutely Brilliant Outdoor Ed week. A huge thank you to the parents that helped as these things rely a lot on people volunteering their time. Also well done to all the children they were great ambassadors to our school while out in the community.
Welcome
Welcome to my blog. After a year of putting it off I found time and drive to organise a class blog site.
I think that it will be a great way to show case some of the fantastic things Room Two are doing over the year.
