My Greatest Feat

Well it's started. Mr R. Big Mc came to launch the My Greatest Feat today, there was lots of movement and action to kick start the campaign. Well done guys!!!!

With The Football World Cup only a few weeks away the children will be taking part in a activity at school where we record the amount of steps taken each day. The steps are recorded daily then combined with the whole school to see how far we have travelled around South Africa supporting the All Whites.

Pizza Time

The class have been learning about writing instructions and what better way than learning through doing!!! I thought that making a pizza would be a good hands on experience. The children were focusing on using Verbs and Precise Vocabulary.

Got to get the topping right.

Sparking Creativity

Toady Room Two started their Inquiry. The big idea is Creativity and Innovations and that they will show an understanding of
-  a product should fill a need and be functional
- they can find solutions, explore ideas, problem solve and use creative thinking.

To introduce the inquiry the children are being encouraged to question how circuits work. They are doing this by exploring with wires, batteries, bulbs, buzzers etc. The children have also been encouraged to bring in to school old appliances that we are taking apart to look at how they work.

Tuesday was our first session of the inquiry and the children had a great time discovering!

Some of the class experimenting

Jack seems pleased that his circuit worked

We quickly learnt that the batteries need some thing to power rather than feed the power back intro the battery pack, it SMOKED !

Cycle Safety

Our Year Six students have been taking part in the Christchurch City Council's Cycle Safe  Programme.
Children learn to ride their cycle with confidence and be road-wise with the Cycle Safe Programme. Pupils complete level one (beginner) training sessions which include cycle maintenance, how to fit a helmet and basic cycling skills. If the pupils achieve the required standard they progress to level two (intermediate) and begin road rule and on-road training in supervised groups. At the end of the Programme all pupils receive a personal certificate detailing their achievements.  The Programe is aligned with New Zealand Transport Agency's. During the running of the programme it's great to see children's confidence grow.
